Behaviour Therapy
Common challenges….
- Your dog reacts negatively towards unknown people and/or other dogs, e.g. lunging, barking, snapping, baring teeth?
- Your dog becomes distressed & panics in your absence, e.g. bark & howl, become destructive or toilet in the home?
- Your dog has become aggressive (protective) of food, objects or people?
One of the main reasons people seek dog behaviour therapy is aggression, dogs can show aggression for many different reasons and in varying degrees.
These behaviours can make you feel anxious about walking your dog, you can feel trapped at home not wanting to leave your dog or scared about where their behaviour may lead.
As a qualified behaviourist, I work to address the underlying causes of problematic behaviours in dogs, such as anxiety, fear, or aggression. I have an in depth knowledge of the dogs mind, and use scientific principles and evidence-based techniques to analyse and modify behaviours teaching a dog a different approach to life using a behavioural modification plan.
Firstly understand the needs of you and your dog. In our first session, we’ll chat about your dogs undesired behaviours. I may need to complete a questionnaire and assess of your dog in the home environment. A veterinary referral may be recommended to rule out any underline pain or medical concerns before a training modification treatment plan can be put into action.
As all dogs are different, undesired behaviours occur for many reasons whether neurological, by nature, nurtured inadvertently without knowing, environmental considerations, underlying health related issues (pain), hormones and adolescence, the weather and even human / owner stress synchronization.
My training methods are modern and results focussed. Ethical and well researched, delivered compassionately with understanding, and with the ability to build strong links between pet owners and their dog.
